Piano quartet Gustav4 is an exchange between some leading and innovative musicians based on two sides of the Baltic Sea, in Helsinki and Stockholm. Their aim is to focus on common Nordic ground and look back on the time when Finland and Sweden were the same country. Their repertoire includes music written in Sweden-Finland during the 18th and 19th centuries, but also presents rarely played Nordic chamber music.
In this program we present a true rarity, a classical pearl that might not have been performed for decades, perhaps even centuries, namely the piano quartet by Joachim Nicolas Eggert (1779-1813). We will also present works by two prominent women; one rarely performed in Finland by Elfrida Andrée (1841-1929) and one by the Finnish Kaija Saariaho (b.1952), one of the greatest Nordic composers of our time.
The concerts in Helsinki, Mariehamn and Stockholm during the fall of 2019 are part of a tour which continues in the spring of 2020, "Around the Gulf of Bothnia", which takes us from Österbotten, via Torneå, to Västerbotten and concludes in Umeå.
