More than an hour’s surprise concert for our society’s members inaugurated KVAH’s autumn season on 17 September. Our artistic director, pianist Bengt Forsberg presented selections from the repertoire for duos and piano trios with his friends violinist Cecilia Zilliacus and cellist Kati Raitinen. Once a year Bengt entertains in this way with a ”blind tasting” where we are offered movements and some complete works, followed by a quiz where the audience is invited to guess what they just heard. This year’s 35–40 listeners searched for fingerprints by great masters like Beethoven and Brahms, but the favourites may have been Kati’s masterly performance of a movement from Atterberg’s cello concerto and Cecilia’s magnificent taster from a future CD where she is scheduled to record Amada Maier’s violin concerto. In both, Bengt at the piano acted as our impressive orchestra.
